Why You Should Elope On PEI

There are so many reasons to elope on Prince Edward Island.

Prince Edward Island is home to some of the most beautiful sceneries in Canada!

From the white sand beaches, cotton candy sunsets, red-stoned cliffs, and the ocean around every corner, you will surely find what you are looking for!

#1 You Want It To Actually Be About The Two Of You

I’m sure we have all heard the saying “A wedding day is for the parents, not the bride and groom.” And this rings true for a lot of families. If you want your wedding day to actually be about the two of you and the love you share, eloping may be the perfect route to take.

#2 Avoid The Family Drama

Are you nervous about making a few people upset about eloping instead of hosting a large wedding? You know what also sucks… being the mediator for months leading up to the wedding between the messy divorced parents. Even worse, is the anxiety on the wedding day if people actually do start arguing. Just avoid this altogether by eloping.

#3 A Safe Plan For The Socially Anxious

I, like many others, do not look forward to talking or dancing in front of a large crowd. Many people feel really uncomfortable on their wedding day simply because the day was never designed for their personality in the first place. If you struggle with social anxiety do not feel pressured to host a large wedding if it is going to cause more nerves than happiness.

#4 Feel All The Emotions

Holding true for both men and women, many people are not comfortable showing emotion in front of a large group of people. Emotions are shared entirely different when it's just you both, a PEI wedding photographer, and an officiant present.

#5 Intentionality With Your Partner

Have you ever heard that you may not get to actually spend time with your partner on your wedding day? Because unfortunately, that holds true for a lot of couples. If you have 150 guests, have a 2-minute conversation with each (and let's be real, some will be a lot longer than 2 minutes), that is 300 minutes, which equals out to 5 hours of talking to people who are not your partner. Many PEI couples are choosing to elope so they can make a beautiful memory with their partner and avoid a day of small talk.

#6 Save Money... Like A Lot Of Money

The average cost of a wedding in North America is approximately $30,000. You may think that is absolutely nuts, but it easily happens. The more people you invite, the quicker you spend money. When you elope you do not have to pay for a large venue, transportation of guests, seating, meals, drinks, DJ, decor, florals, wedding planner, the list goes on. You can make your elopement as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be, but at least the money is being spent on YOU.

#7 Leave No Trace

Not only does a big wedding day cost a lot of money, but it also produces a lot of waste. If you are planning a wedding with over 150 people, hundreds of pounds of waste could be produced. From decor, clothing, flowers, paper plates, utensils, wedding favors, sparklers, etc… there's a lot that will not be reused again. When you decide to leave no trace you are valuing the experience over the material items, which eloping is perfect for! Many couples are instead putting the money saved towards a honeymoon.

#8 No Time To Actually Plan A Big Wedding

It's safe to say we are all really (REALLY) busy. Lots of us may not have time to actually sit down and plan a 150+ person wedding. Between organizing the wedding party, family travel, all the vendors, food, seating, timeline, and shopping, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. When eloping, there are only 3 things that you need to prepare; officiant, photographer, and location. Once those three things are figured out you are smooth sailing!

#9 Explore Somewhere New

Looking for an adventure… elope! Whether you stay on Prince Edward Island and exchange your vows along the red sand cliffs with the birds flying above or go to an entirely different place in the world (feel free to take me along), an adventure awaits you. Not to mention, also really cool awesome photos!
