How To Choose A Wedding Date
When Sam and I planned our wedding there were so many factors we had to take into account when deciding on our date. Both of us have busy careers and it's not always easy to find time, especially to take an extended week off since we had a destination wedding. I know we aren't the only ones who had similar conversations, so here at seven tips to help narrow down the date for your wedding day here on Prince Edward Island.

#1 Start With A Day That May Be Symbolic To You Both
Is there a date that sticks out to you, one that you want to celebrate forever? A symbolic date tends to mean a lot to your relationship, it could represent your first date, or when you got engaged. A lot of people have this as a high priority so they still celebrate those milestones as they get older.
#2 A Date That Looks Cool

This is the route Sam and I personally took, with our wedding date being 22/11/22.
Some go off angel numbers, what will be easy to remember, or it looks cool when written down.
#3 Decide Between High Season or Slow Season

This typically isn’t talked about enough, but planning a wedding on the same ten weekends everyone else who got engaged in the last two years can feel like a nightmare at times. Venues, wedding photographers, transportation, and caterers can typically only vendor one wedding per day, leaving slim pickings as the date creeps up. During the slow season you may be able to get every vendor you desire as there is a lot less competition for those wedding dates.
#4 Check The Local Calendar For Events
Large local events may not only draw attention away from your guests but also from vendors in your area. For example, CBMF weekend here on Prince Edward Island uses transportation services, most major caterers, photographers, and our photo booth. Be sure to check your area for similar event dates.
#5 Find the Perfect Wedding Venue or Wedding Photographer

If there's a wedding venue or PEI wedding photographer you know you MUST have, ask them for their availability for a particular month(s) and decide your date based on that. Some wedding venues like Clinton Hills and the Grand Ivory have their availability posted right on their website.
#6 Ask Your VIPS
Know who your VIPs are. Pick a handful of people you can’t get married without their presence. If your sister is one, ask her if she has any blackout dates that would hinder her from being able to attend. This is a great way to avoid stress down the road.
#7 Skip Busy Seasons of Your Personal Life

You want to be able to celebrate your wedding anniversary over the years (it's part of the fun of being married!). If you know there are certain months that your life is already super crazy, maybe decide on a different month to get married. Just because you can swing the time off this year, doesn't mean you can in the years following. I personally did not feel comfortable getting married during peak wedding season as I am a wedding photographer and it would be hard to celebrate my own marriage during that time.
What Not To Do...

Avoid picking a wedding date based solely on how you would like the weather to be that day. Unfortunately, no one has any control over this. Choose a date you will be happy with no matter what mother nature chooses to do!
